The coach of the Ghana national team, Chris Hughton, has unveiled the roster of his 23 players in preparation for the upcoming international friendly matches against Mexico and the United States of America, scheduled for mid-October.
The Black Stars will face Mexico at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Saturday, October 14th. Subsequently, the Ghanaians will go up against the United States on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee.
These two matches serve as crucial preparation for the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers slated for November and the upcoming African Cup of Nations to be held in Côte d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
For this doubleheader, Coach Chris Hughton has announced his list of called-up players. Notably, the list includes the return of Tariq Lamptey, the Brighton defender, and Thomas Partey, the Arsenal midfielder. Both players are making their comeback to the squad after missing out on the AFCON 2023 qualifiers the previous month due to injuries.
Tariq Lamptey, whose last appearance with the Black Stars dates back to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, had been sidelined from the team due to a long-term injury. However, his impressive performance at the start of the season in England has earned him a national team recall.
Another significant name in the roster is that of vice-captain Thomas Teye Partey, who was absent during the qualification match against the Central African Republic due to an injury. His return strengthens the team as they prepare for these crucial international encounters.
