Sixteen-year-old Nickecoy Bramwell from Jamaica made history at the 51st Carifta Games in St. George’s, Grenada, by breaking a record previously thought untouchable since 2002 in Boys’ Under-17 400m.
At the renowned Kirani James Athletics Stadium, named in honor of the legendary Olympian, Bramwell delivered a performance for the ages. With the speed of lightning and an unwavering resolve, he crossed the finish line in an astonishing 47.27 seconds, shattering Usain Bolt’s longstanding record of 47.33 seconds, set over two decades ago.

The stadium erupted with cheers and applause as Bramwell’s incredible performance rewrote the record books. He described the feeling as “wonderful,” having aimed for this achievement for over a year. “It’s a wonderful feeling to break the record. Since last summer, I have been eyeing the record, so it’s a great feeling I could come out here and get it,” he said.
Despite facing some leg issues before the race, Nickecoy Bramwell stayed focused. “I just took my mind off it and focused on the record,” he explained.

Following Bramwell’s impressive run, Grenadian athlete Kemron Mathlyn came in second place with a time of 47.96 seconds. St. Lucian contender Eagan Neely secured third place with 48.16 seconds.
