In a recent development surrounding the controversy involving former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi, Tiger Eye P.I., the investigative team led by acclaimed journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has issued a strong rebuttal to allegations of bribery.
In a press release dated Tuesday, 2nd April 2024, Tiger Eye P.I. addressed Nyantakyi’s claims, stating: “Tiger Eye P.I. and Anas Aremeyaw Anas categorically deny any involvement in soliciting or accepting bribes from Kwesi Nyantakyi prior to the publication of the documentary.”
According to numerous media reports, Nyantakyi confessed to paying a bribe of $100,000 to Anas’s purported lawyer, Kwame Gyan, a lecturer at the University of Ghana. However, Tiger Eye P.I. clarified, “Neither Tiger Eye P.I. nor Anas Aremeyaw Anas engaged the services of a lawyer named Kwame Gyan from the University of Ghana.”
The press release emphasized the organization’s commitment to integrity, stating, “Nyantakyi’s assumption that a bribe could suppress an exposé demonstrates naivety. Tiger Eye P.I. underscores its robust internal mechanisms, making it difficult for anyone to alter or suppress an investigation.”
Regarding Nyantakyi’s legal proceedings and accountability, Tiger Eye P.I. remarked, “Nyantakyi’s admission of bribery justifies his life ban from football-related activities by FIFA. He faces ongoing criminal trial for corruption and fraud.”
Furthermore, safety concerns surrounding Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s testimony were addressed, stating, “Anas is willing to cooperate if his identity remains protected.”
In light of Nyantakyi’s alleged political aspirations, Tiger Eye P.I. asserted its independence, stating, “Nyantakyi’s alleged efforts to restore credibility for political aspirations do not influence Tiger Eye P.I.’s independence.”
In conclusion, Tiger Eye P.I. reaffirmed its dedication to upholding journalistic integrity and fighting corruption. “Tiger Eye P.I. stands firm in its dedication to uncovering corruption in Ghana and beyond, ensuring accountability and transparency.”
