The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Prof. Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah has explained why Voters’ ID cards and Ghanaian passport can’t be used as proof of identity during the SIM re-registration exercise.
On Monday, October 4, 2021, Prof. Attafuah told Citi TV that the new Ghana card is more credible than the other documents mentioned above.

“During the mass registration, there were people who went to registration centres with Ghana passports but were denied the right to register, because, upon interrogation, it was found that they were not Ghanaians, ” said Prof. Attaffuah.
“It can be found to be procured through improper means and you cannot rely on it,” he added.
He also assured those complaining about the delay of NIA in distributing the Ghana Cards to those who have already registered, that they “will have them soon.”
As a reminder, the nationwide mobile SIM re-registration exercise kicked off on Friday. It is expected to last for six months, ending on March 31, 2022.
