The West Ham club has imposed a heavy financial penalty on its player Kurt Zouma after a video in which he was seen hitting his cat went viral.

Kurt Zouma has been the subject of a heavy financial penalty from his club West Ham. His employer, whose image has been tarnished, even announced that he had been fined “the biggest possible fine”.
According to many British media, the French international had been fined £250,000, around 300,000 euros. A large sum, but which only corresponds to two weeks of salary for the player.
The maximum amount of a fine a club can impose on their player is usually two weeks’ wages, which in the Frenchman’s case would amount to almost 300,000 euros in total.
“The player immediately accepted the fine and requested that the amount be donated to an animal rights organization,” the club said. This sanction follows the broadcast of a video where the Hammers defender hits his cat several times. A video that scandalized beyond England.
“Kurt is remorseful and, like everyone at the club, fully understands the intensity of the reaction to the incident and the need for action to be taken,” the club said.
Shortly before West Ham’s announcement, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), the world’s largest animal rights group, said the player’s two cats had been taken from him.
“We want to reassure everyone that we are investigating and that the cats are safe and cared for,” the RSCPA tweeted.
“Kurt and the club are fully cooperating with the investigation and the player has voluntarily agreed to all measures initially taken, including giving the two family cats to the RSPCA for examination,” explained for their part West Ham.
Petition and other decisions against Kurt Zouma
A petition in French and English demanding legal action against the player has also been a huge success on the change.org platform with more than 267,000 signatures at the time we are posting this article.
Moreover, the sports equipment manufacturer Adidas also announced that it had ended the contract with the footballers.
“We have closed our investigation and we can confirm that Kurt Zouma is no longer an athlete under contract with Adidas,” the German-based company said in an email to AFP.
