The collapse of a building in Lagos, Nigeria, claimed the lives of around 40 people with only 15 survivors, according to the provisional toll updated by the Nigerian authorities.

“9 survivors were initially recorded with 42 deaths now. We have additional six survivors that were newly discovered at the Police Hospital Falomo, making total survivors 15 “, said Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters earlier this week at the scene, witnesses said several masons from other West African countries were among those missing in the crash.

Several emergency supplies were deployed to the scene to support the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.


These are the National Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Lagos State Fire Services, Federal Road Safety Corps, Police , the army and the paramedics.
