Head of State Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reacted after several people died following the explosion of a mining truck, Thursday, January 20, 2022, in a town located in the Western Region of Ghana.
Although the exact death toll is not yet known, the Regional Coordination of the National Disaster Management Organization said initial reports indicates that at least 50 people died. Meanwhile 50 others were injured in the explosion near the mining town of Bogoso.

President Nana Akufo-Addo offered his condolences to the victims, describing the explosion as a “truly sad, unfortunate and tragic incident”
“The Police, Armed Forces and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) are co-ordinating efforts to contain the situation, and I have also instructed NADMO to see to it that rapid relief is brought to residents of the town”, he said.

The Ghana Police Service meanwhile said in a statement that “most of the victims were rescued” and admitted to hospitals.
